A rescue operation was launched after a missing man threatened to harm himself on a Northumberland beach.

The 56-year-old man, who had been reported missing from the Fife area in Scotland, made contact with a relative and was threatening to self harm on the beach at Bamburgh.

Police in Fife, who had been looking for the man, were notified and alerted Northumbria Police.

The emergency services teamed up to search the coastline and the man's car was found by police in Bamburgh. He was located nearby, safe and well.
